An Indian-origin businessman in the United States has succumbed to his injuries a day after being shot by an unidentified gunman in his family-owned liquor shop in the U.S.
Amit Patel from Edison was alone in the liquor store, Roseway Liquors, in Irvington when he was shot at close range, police said.
They added that there was no indication of a robbery or damage to the store and just one shot was fired.
A statement released by acting Essex county prosecutor Carolyn A Murray and acting Irvington police director Musa Malik said that the police found Patel inured from a gunshot wound when they arrived. He was later pronounced dead, it said.
The 28-year-old got married only a year ago.
Officials said that the shooting could have been the result of a robbery but added that it was too early to be sure.
The CCTV camera footage is due to be examined for any leads in the case. No arrests have been made so far.
