A British-Asian member of the UK Independence Party (UKIP) who was reportedly tipped to be a leader in the future has quit accusing the party of 'deliberately attracting the racist vote'.

Former youth wing chair Sanya-Jeet Thandi, 20, whose parents are Indian, said that the UKIP has descended into a form of racist populism.

Thandi added that she was disassociating with the party, as it was deliberately attracting the racist vote.

According to the Daily Mirror, she added that UKIP was still a relatively young party. That is not an excuse to allow racists to stand for election.

The party has denied allegations that it is racist.
