In an endeavor revive the traditional aspect of the festival, the people in Uttar Pradesh are making conscious efforts to boycott Chinese products and use indigenous products on the occasion of Diwali.
In order to promote the cause, a group called 'Swadeshi Jagran Manch' - the economic wing of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh - staged a protest on Sunday to boycott the use of Chinese products as they are easily available and more in demand because of different varieties and low prices.
The members also burnt the symbolic Chinese dragon in a market and shouted slogans to condemn the use of Chinese products.
The people are opting for traditional products this year, even if it means paying more to foster the business of Indian micro, small and medium enterprises.
The residents of Allahabad were seen buying hand-made clay products at a market to give a little push to indigenous products.
"This Diwali the customary lamps are quite popular. So, this time we are using pure earthen lamps. Since India's majority of population lives in villages and villages are related to soil, we are boycotting the adulterated products and will use pure products made up of soil or clay, especially lamps made up of clay which have now flocked the market. We are boycotting impure 'Made in China' products," Ramesh Verma, a customer, said.
On the occasion of Diwali, the people purchase clothes, gifts and sweets to celebrate the occasion. It is considered auspicious to make new purchases at this period.
