The Delhi Commission of Women (DCW) on Wednesday took suo-moto cognizance of the 18-month-old's rape case in Hauz Khas Village of south Delhi.
The issue has been brought to the notice of the commission that the Crisis Intervention Centre Counsellor of the Commission was not informed about the incident, a letter issued by DCW chief Swati Maliwal read.
The commission has sought the explanation of police on why the Centre was not informed about such a heinous incident at the time of registration of F.I.R. and while conducting the MLC examination.
The DCW sought the reply of police on such gross negligence within seven days of the receipt of this letter, failing which appropriate action under the law will be initiated by the commission.
On November 13, the infant was raped by her father's friend, who was babysitting her, at their home in Hauz Khas Village.
The incident came to light after the child's mother returned home in the evening to find blood on her daughter's private parts and clothes.
The parents quickly informed the police after which the suspect was nabbed.
