The Commerce and Industry Minister Suresh Prabhu on Thursday remarked that the recent dip in inflation based on Wholesale Price Index (WPI) was reflective of the Centre's policies "to ensure relief to the poorest of the poor."
As per government data, WPI inflation eased to reach a six-month low of 2.84 percent in January.
Prabhu took to Twitter to inform the same, "Easing of inflation continues providing common man relief from higher prices.WPI Inflation in Jan 2018 has dipped to 2.84% against 4.26% in Jan 2017 and 3.58% in Dec 2017."
This was followed by another tweet, "Lower inflation rate in food articles contributing to this dip. Reflective of our policies to ensure relief to the poorest of the poor."
Meanwhile, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation for the month of January stood at 5.07 percent, down from 5.21 percent in December 2017.
