A new research has suggested that high-dose of vitamin C given by injection, can boost the cancer-killing effect of chemotherapy.

US scientists said that if the vitamin is given by injection, it could potentially be a safe, effective and low-cost treatment for ovarian and other cancers, and have called for large-scale government clinical trials, the BBC reported.

Scientists at the University of Kansas said that Vitamin C has long been used as an alternative therapy for cancer and when given by injection, it is absorbed into the body, and can kill cancer cells without harming normal ones.

The study has been reported in Science Translational Medicine.
