World number one Rory Mcllroy will in doubt for the upcoming British Open beginning in nine days' time at St. Andrews, as he has ruptured a ligament in his ankle.
Mcllroy wrote on Instagram that rehab has already started as his team was continuing to access the extent of injury, the BBC reported.
However, a spokesman for Mcllroy said despite the injury, he has not yet ruled himself out of the Open.
The world number one, who has won four majors so far in his career, was set to play in the Scottish Open in the bid to prepare for the Open.
With the injury taking time to heal, Mcllroy could also miss the chance to defend his US PGA Championship title which is due to start in August.
Mcllroy has had a mixed season so far, finishing fourth at this year's Masters back in April, and a joint ninth at last month's US Open as both the tournaments were won by Jordan Spieth.
