Andy Murray has withdrawn from the French Open starting Sunday, due to a chronic back injury which provoked him to leave Rome Masters last week in the second round match.
The World No. 2 struggled with his injury during the clay-court season in 2012 and revealed that he has been experiencing constant pain for the past 18 months, the Mirror reports.
According to the report, Murray had met with medical specialists to assess his health conditions for the second Grand Slam of the year at Roland Garros.
Murray said that it has been a difficult decision for him as he loves playing in Paris and regretted that he is not medically fit to compete in the game, adding that he now wants to focus on making a comeback in the court as soon as possible.
The Press Association Sport has issued a statement saying that Andy has reluctantly withdrawn from the French Open and will now prepare for the grass court season.
The Scot had taken injections before Wimbledon last year that seamlessly eased out the pain but his situation worsened again in Madrid last week and he did not get any better with rest, the report added.
