World number three Maria Sharapova has pulled out of the US Open due to a leg muscle strain.
Sharapova, who travelled to New York for the tournament, announced her withdrawal a day before the start, the Guardian reports.
"Unfortunately, I will not be able to compete in this year's US Open. I have done everything possible to be ready, but it was just not enough time. To all my amazing fans, I will be back in the Asian swing in a few weeks and look forward to finishing the year healthy and strong," the 28-year-old tennis player posted on Facebook.
Sharapova has been struggling with her injury since her Wimbledon semi-final defeat against Serena Williams last month.
The final Grand Slam of the 2015 season is scheduled to begin from today at the Flushing Meadows in New York.
