The Congress leader and former Minister of State for Home R.P.N. Singh on Monday said that the ink assault on Jammu and Kashmir MLA Engineer Rashid at the Press Club of India here indicated that under the current NDA regime, the rule of law does not exist.
"We see this kind of incident everyday, and the main reason is the lukewarm and tepid response of the government to these kinds of situations," Singh told ANI here.
He said that democratic system is failing in the country and people are taking the law into their own hands, which is extremely unfortunate.
"Everyone has the right to protest, but the level of intolerance has increased," he added.
Rashid was attacked with ink outside the Press Club of India by Vishnu Gupta-led Hindu Sena.
The Hindu Sena alleged that Rashid had insulted the cow, which is considered sacred to Hindus.
Rashid was recently beaten up by BJP MLAs inside the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly for allegedly hosting a beef party at the MLA hostel.
