Lionsgate has called 'Insurgent's' opening weekend at 54 million dollars with 101million dollars worldwide, topping the Box Office.
'Insurgent's' stateside figure of 54 million dollars is essentially 1 percent off from 'Divergent,' which opened with 54.6 million dollars in weekend sales in March 2014, the Deadline reported.
The sequel fell a little short of 'Divergent's' 22.8 million dollars with its Friday's 21.3 million dollars, but Insurgent's Saturday of 19.875 million dollars improved slightly over Divergent's 19.85 million dollars a year ago.
Richie Fay, Lionsgate's domestic theatrical distribution president, said that a great indication of the growing power of 'Insurgent' is its Friday to Saturday hold along with its A- CinemaScore.
Fay added that there were slightly more males with this film, adding that they had IMAX which plays to the fanboys, so they are broadening the audience.
Coming into next weeks, Fay thinks the playability will be great as spring break continues and with the weather breaking back east.
