An interview with Wikileaks founder Julian Assange would cost an interviewer as high as a million dollars.

Award-winning filmmaker Alex Gibney, who has made a new documentary on WikiLeaks, said he tried over the course of a year and a half to get an interview with Assange, but when could finally arrange for a six-hour meeting, he was told by Assange that the market rate for an interview with him was a million dollars, reports The Nation.

When Gibney said he doesn't pay for interviews, Assange reportedly asked him to spy on his other interview subjects instead. Gibney said he found it a rather odd request from someone concerned about source protection, and therefore he never got the interview with Assange.

Gibney's documentary - We Steal Secrets: The Story of Wikileaks - opened in Los Angeles and New York City on May 24.
