Chandigarh police on Monday refuted claims that they aren't willing to lodge complaints against the son of a BJP leader and said that they are doing investigation with an open mind.

Vikas Barala, son of Haryana BJP chief Subhash Barala, was arrested on Saturday on the charges of stalking and harassing an IAS officer's daughter in Chandigarh.

Speaking to the media on the matter, Eish Sehgal, SSP Chandigarh Police, said that the police aren't aiding the minister in the investigation and are doing their best to solve the matter.

He said, "We are looking into the matter from all the perspectives. We don't want to investigate the matter under any pressure."

He also said that the Chandigarh Police have reconstructed the crime scene and CCTV footages are being checked.

On being questioned about the missing footage of five CCTV cameras, Sehgal said that the technical team is looking into the matter.

On Monday, the BJP refuted the reports of the Haryana BJP Chief's resignation. "BJP Haryana Chief Subhash Barala has not resigned. The matter is related to his son. The law will take its own course," BJP sources revealed.

Earlier, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar too opined that the incident had no involvement of Subhash Barala. However, he assured that the accused, of found guilty, will be punished.

The congress accused the BJP of pressurising Chandigarh administration to protect the son of the Haryana BJP Chief.

A case was registered by the Chandigarh Police against Vikas and other youth under Section 354 D (stalking) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 185 (Motor Vehicle Act) of the CRPC on the basis of complaint filed by the woman.
