United States President Barack Obama has said that Iraqi troops and Kurdish Peshmerga fighters have reclaimed the Mosul dam from the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) militants.
The U.S. had provided assistance to Iraq in carrying out the operation to retake Iraq's largest dam from militants. Terming it a significant step forward, Obama said that the U.S. had begun a long-term strategy to defeat the ISIS militants, the BBC reported.
The statement was made shortly after Iraq alleged that they had seized control of the dam again, a claim that was refuted by the ISIS.
