A new report suggests that American journalist James Foley and other Islamic State captives were tortured, starved and threatened with execution before they were beheaded.
According to the New York Times, moments before the beheading, Foley was forced to look into the camera after reading a script wherein he blames the United States for his death.
Foley was brutally tortured by IS militants and was subject to harsh beating, waterboarding and even 'mock executions'.
The information was obtained after interviewing four former hostages and their relatives, colleagues and local witnesses among others.
The extremist militant group has beheaded three western hostages after James Foley.
Other western hostages who were beheaded were Steven Scotloff, another American journalist, David Haines, a British aid worker and Alan Henning, A British taxi driver who travelled to Syria to supply food and water to those affected by the civil war.
