Congress leader Manish Tewari on Monday questioned the alleged warning by Washington to Islamabad during President Barack Obama's visit of India, stating that the US should ensure that Pakistan abstains from sponsoring a non-state actor.

Tewari was reacting to an alleged warning by the US, threatening the Islamic Republic with 'consequences' if any cross border attack is traced back to Pakistan during President Obama's visit.

"Why only during the President Obama visit? If at all America is mounting pressure on Pakistan, then that pressure should ensure that Pakistan desists from sponsoring a non-state actor into India and more importantly does not violate the ceasefire along the International Border and the Line of Control," Tewari told ANI.

President Obama is scheduled to visit the country later this week as the chief guest of the Republic Day parade. He will be the first US President to attend the parade.
