Deputy Foreign Minister of Italy Senator Benedetto Della Vedova on Wednesday arrived on a two-day official visit to Sri Lanka to boost bilateral relations between two nations.

His visit to the island nation is the first high-level visit from Italy since the last visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Italy in 2006.

The Lankan Foreign Affairs Ministry in a statement asserted that his visit will contribute towards renewing the longstanding bilateral relations between the two countries and open new avenues for increased trade cooperation, reports the Colombo Page.

Vedova is scheduled to have meetings with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Power and Energy, the Minister of Special Assignments, the Minister of Foreign Employment and the Minister of Development Strategies and International Trade.

He is accompanied by a four member business delegation specializing in the apparel industry and renewable energy from Euro Green Power Ltd, Moving Energy, U2k Worldwide, and Building Energy.

During his two-day visit here, he is scheduled to visit one of the leading Italian investments in Sri Lanka, Calzedonia (named "Omega Line" in Sri Lanka) factory in Dankotuwa.
