At least 20 kg of poppy straw was recovered from a public vehicle in Surankote area of Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district yesterday.
The poppy straw was recovered from a vehicle which was on its way to Surankote from Shopian during checking at the Mughal Road being carried by the state police and army.
"During checking of the vehicles on the road, we saw some suspicious vehicle. When we conducted a checking inside the vehicle, we recovered some 20 kgs of poppy straw," Riaz Iqbal Tantery, SDPO Police, Surnakot told ANI.
"We have always tried that no such things are found with anyone. We will not be lenient in our approach. We have openly waged a war against drugs like poppy straw, Charas and will continue with this," he added.
Poppy straw (also mowed opium straw, crushed poppy capsule, poppy chaff, poppy husk) is derived from opium poppies (Papaver somniferum) that is harvested when fully mature and dried by mechanical means, minus the ripe poppy seeds.
