In a bid to promote cricket among the youth of strife-torn Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has launched a cricket league in Srinagar city.

Branded as 'Police Public Cricket Premier League (PPCPL)', the event was organized by the state police in order to motivate the players to improve and elevate their skills.

"By organising such event, our effort is to bridge the gap between the people and police of the state and also that the public and the police work together as one," said Javed Gillani, Inspector General (IG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police.

The league will comprise of ten teams carved out from across the state and will also feature renowned Indian cricketers Mohammad Kaif, Parvez Rasool and Rahul Sharma.

Veteran commentator Charu Sharma has been assigned the task to do the commentary for the tournament.

Reflecting on this initiative, Sharma said that the league would provide an ideal platform to several players of the state in achieving their dreams of playing for the nation.

"We should remember that the Jammu and Kashmir team defeated Mumbai team, even though no such tournaments were organised at state-level. If such events are carried out, the game will surely grow," he added.
