The forest officials initiated a cleanliness drive here on Friday, as transportation became extremely difficult with water stagnating on roads and obstructing vehicular movement, following the catastrophic floods that recently hit the valley.
"People are facing problems due to the fallen trees and debris on the streets which is making it difficult for traffic to ply on the roads and people to move about. But the workers are cleaning up the roads, which is making things a little easier. I appeal to the government to clean the area faster because the people are facing difficulties," said Seikh Ahmad, a labourer.
The havoc of the floods has also hit the availability of labour force, due to which the work is moving at snail's pace.
"The labourers are also facing difficulty in cleaning the areas which were submerged in the worst flood. There is also a scarcity of labourers as their houses are broken and they, along with their children, are putting up in tents. So there are many problems," said another labourer Javed Ahmad.
Reportedly, the Municipal Corporation has launched a massive sanitation drive and has collected tonnes of waste during the last seven days.
More than 75,000 people were affected in partly submerged homes in Srinagar, where roads have transformed into stagnant canals strewn with wreckage, trash and dead animals.

More than 2,00,000 people have been rescued since the floods arrived and communication networks have also been partially restored.
The Indian Army has deployed about 30,000 troops for rescue and relief operations and soldiers distributed 224,000 litres of water and food to survivors.
In a gesture of solidarity, staff at the Indian Prime Minister's Office (PMO) gave their one day's salary for flood relief.
