With the Jammu and Kashmir elections throwing a fractured mandate, Governor N. N. Vohra has written to the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to meet him on January 1, and hold discussions about government formation in the state.
According to reports, the PDP and the BJP who have secured 28 and 25 seats respectively have been asked to come and discuss their plans over government formation in the state.
The communication from the Governor is the first step toward the formation of a new government in the state.
Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah had earlier on Friday refuted a report about the National Conference (NC) sending a letter extending support to the People's Democratic Party (PDP) for government formation in the state.
"Looks like PDP is playing mind games with the BJP leaking about a letter of NC support that doesn't exist. Only a verbal offer conveyed," he tweeted.
Congress leader Randeep Surjewala had, however said that his party would back the PDP in national and regional interest.
