Students of Jadavpur University on Monday ignored Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Abhishek Banerjee's remark mocking the recent protests.
"This is totally negligent and foolish comment on behalf of that MP, because this actually gives an introduction to his academic background. As far as I am concerned, Jadavpur is absolutely known for its academic excellence and we are not concerned with these remarks at all," Deep, a student told ANI here.
"There is no importance to his comments. We have two demands, first is that we want a free enquiry on the molestation case and the VC's resignation," added another student Arnab Bhattacharya.
Abhishek Banerjee, who is the nephew of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, had earlier questioned whether the ban on liquor and illegal substances had triggered off the protests in Jadavpur University.
This comes in the wake of repeated protests reportedly demanding the resignation of the vice chancellor, the pro- vice chancellor and the registrar of the varsity in the wake of alleged police assault on the students during the protests on September 17.
The students had earlier protested over the alleged molestation of a female student last month.
