YSR Congress President Jaganmohan Reddy on Friday met BJP President Rajnath Singh and urged him to support his party's move to prevent the division of Andhra Pradesh.

"We have spoken to Rajnath bhai, and we did have a very detailed discussion on this topic. He assured us that he would be discussing this matter with his colleagues in the party, and very soon, a decision would emerge," he said.

The Kadapa MP also sought support from all opposition parties to oppose the Telangana Bill.

"I'm hopeful that wisdom would dawn upon opposition parties and they would stand together against this injustice," Reddy said.

Earlier on Friday, supporters of the YSR Congress Party and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) called for a shutdown for thesecond consecutive day in various districts of Andhra Pradesh against the bifurcation of the state.

Members of the YSR Congress Party burnt tyres and staged protests on the streets of Guntur District against the central government's decision to create a separate state of Telangana.

Effects of the shutdown were also seen in Andhra capital Hyderabad, where businesses remained shut, as also in the port city of Visakhapatnam where no public transport was visible and people were seen waiting at bus stops.
