Jaitley meets IRS Association, says will look into their representation

The IRS (C&CE) Association met Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today.

Mr. Jaitley gave a patient hearing to the association and went through the whole representation carefully.

He appreciated IRS (C&CE) service for smooth and successful historical developments in indirect tax administration and transition from time to time in the country.

He agreed that the IRS officers in discharging their duty act as the backbone of Indian economy. He assured that the interest of the service will be fully safeguarded and their role would not be diluted in this changing scenario.

He assured that the officers of the department and service will be key in implementation of GST and shall supervise the affairs.

He assured that the composition of the GST Council Secretariat would be looked into and the entire ring of the posts would be studied.

The association has demanded the posts of Secretary and Additional Secretary in the GST Council on grounds that it is their domain of expertise.

Jaitley has assured that we are the front of this ministry and our interest would not be compromised and no post would be reduced under any circumstance, rather the role would increase.

The association thanked him immensely for his positive outlook. The association informed Jaitley about the preparedness and readiness of the service for smooth and successful roll out of GST from April 1.

Association also informed that all the States VAT officers are being trained by IRS officers all over the country. Further entire GST law and legal-administrative procedures along with business processes and necessary systemic changes are being framed, drafted and designed by the IRS officers. All the officers are working on war footing with full dedication to make roll out of GST a grand success in India.

The implementation of GST has seen rough weather in several countries and several governments have lost on this count. The Greek economic crisis is also resultant of faulty implementation of GST by Generalists. However, the Association assured FM that officers of this service are committed and determined for successful rollout of GST in the country and will set an example before the world.
