Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, Arun Jaitley on Wednesday demanded that the Returning officer in Varanasi was not acting neutrally and hence called for his replacement.

"He has some programmes in Varanasi where he is supposed to address rallies from where he is contesting as a candidate and also as a prime ministerial candidate of the BJP. We believe that the Returning officer is not acting in a neutral manner and hence I spoke to the Election Commissioner V S Sampath and wrote a letter to Election Commission, mentioning that the Returning officer be replaced immediately. He is interfering in the conduct of free and fair election and hence he has become a threat," Jaitley complained in a press conference.

Jaitley asked: "Is Modi's entry banned in Varanasi? Can he not campaign in his own constituency?"

'We have decided that tomorrow at 11 am we will sit outside BHU and protest, as this is not a banana republic. Simultaneously protest will be underway in Delhi outside the Election Commission's office," Jaitley also added.
