Jakarta mulls export, import expansion between Indonesia-Kabul

Ministry of Commerce and Industries (MoCI) on Wednesday said Afghanistan and Indonesia have agreed on expanding their economic cooperation in the coming years.

According to MoCI, Indonesia can serve as a huge market for Afghanistan's products. And Jakarta plans to expand export and imports between the two countries soon, Tolo News reported.

Over 200 Afghan traders and business leaders are to participate in the annual trade expo in Indonesia, said Sam Aryadi, head of chancery/public and socio-cultural affairs of the Indonesian embassy in Kabul.

Tolo News quoted Aryadi as saying, "The Indonesian government is committed to providing the Afghanistan business community training for export, import procedures, to prepare for trade between the two countries. Bilateral relations between Indonesia and Afghanistan could be enhanced. During the past four years, there were 35 to 70 million US dollars of trade relations between both countries, it has potential and we want to increase that. Therefore, we invite the Afghan business community to provide them with sufficient knowledge to conduct proper export and import activities."

Indonesian embassy also announced a number of awareness and training programs on Indonesia's tariffs and custom laws for Afghan businessmen.
