James McAvoy, wife Anne-Marie Duff getting divorced

Screen heartthrob James McAvoy and his wife Anne-Marie Duff have called it quits nearly after 10 years of marriage.

In a joint statement, they said: "It is with tremendous sadness that we have come to the decision to divorce. We enter this next phase with continued friendship, love and respect for one another and the shared focus of caring for our son," News.com.au reports.

"We ask that you respect our and, most importantly, our child's privacy during this time," it further read.

Meanwhile, an insider revealed that though it was very sad, both have very hectic work schedules and are often at other ends of the world from each other.

"We have been fearing the worst for a while. They have not been together much and both seemed miserable recently," the source said.

The insider continued that they hope that the 37-year-old actor and the 45-year-old actress can still be friends for the sake of their family.

The 'X-Men' star and Marie Duff, who wed in November 2006 and share five-year-old son Brendan McAvoy together, announced their split overnight.
