Japan's EBARA provides solution to irrigation and flood control

With a view to provide a solution to the rising irrigation and flood control needs in South East Asia, two technical seminars were organised by Japan's EBARA Corporation in May 2013 at Bangkok's Thammasat University.

The seminars were titled 'Application of Pumping Equipment' and 'Application of Refrigeration Equipment' and saw the participation of 29 and 27 people respectively.

The seminars, first of its kind at Thammasat University, were targeted at experienced personnel from the private enterprises, university students and staff.

The seminar on pumping equipments focused on fundamentals and application of pumps that are used in irrigation pumping stations which transports water from river or lakes to farms. While the seminar on refrigeration equipment offered basic theory and selection method for the equipment.

Both the seminars were well received by the audience for their easy to understand curriculum which included visual guidance and case studies.

EBARA Corporation is a century old Japan-based organization with net sales of around 412 billion yens. A pioneer in pump manufacturing, it also provides refrigeration equipments to various airports and factories.

The company started EBARA Hatakeyama Memorial Fund (EHMF) to strengthen mutual understanding between Southeast Asian countries through the means of technical guidance. EHMF has organised a total of 232 seminars at various locations in Southeast Asia with over 10,000 participants.

It is slated to hold seven seminars in Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia, and other locations in the current financial year.
