The former Great Britain sprinter Jason Gardener expressed his sadness after reading a study that found one in four children believe playing video games counts as exercise.

The 39-year-old athlete warned that further work was needed to educate children about the benefits of physical activity rather than video technology, the Guardian reported.

Gardener, speaking as an ambassador for the YST's School Sport Week at St Katharine's primary in Bournemouth, said that no doubt technology has given massive quality difference but it's important to make sure that kids still have the opportunity to play outside in the fresh air to keep obesity away.

Children and parents need to be educated about the benefits of doing sports, PE, eating healthy food and having an active lifestyle, he further added.
