The FICCI in partnership with NITI Aayog is organising the national launch of India Energy Security Scenarios (IESS) 2047 Version 2.0 at Federation House here on Thursday.

IESS 2047, developed by NITI Aayog, is an interactive energy planning tool, which aims to explore a range of potential future energy scenarios for India leading up to 2047.

The tool is pivotal to supporting policy makers for India's future energy planning.

Minister of State for Environment and Forests Prakash Javadekar and Niti Aayog vice-chairman Arvind Panagariya will address the IESS 2047.

Version 1.0 of this tool was launched on February 28, 2014.

Version 2.0 has incorporated emissions from energy sector which will be useful for finalising India's INDCs as well as towards meeting Prime Minister's energy security target by producing 175 GW renewable energy capacity by 2022.

The IESS model allows stakeholders to interactively make energy choices and see implications on India's carbon dioxide emissions, costs to GDP and import dependence to land-use.

This has been helping policy makers arrive at a secure energy pathway.
