Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader Jay Panda on Monday dubbed the Gurdaspur terror attack as 'shocking' and added that he is hopeful that this all the political parties would speak with one voice on such an issue.

"This information coming in from Gurdaspur is very shocking. This kind of terrorist attack on India has been continuing for many years with support from across the borders and with involvement of so called non-state actors. And it seems to peek every time there is some hope of dialogues between two nations as recently there was between India's and Pakistan's Prime Ministers," Panda told ANI.

"Be there as it may, our government sources have indicated that this has the support of intelligence agencies from across the LOC and this is a typical pattern, which time has come for us to take steps to ensure that there are severe disincentives for this kind of action," he said.

"I am hoping that whatever necessary on the defence front, on our foreign policy outreach front, will be done. And I am also hopeful that on issue like this all political parties, inside and outside parliament, will speak with one voice," he added.

A high alert has been sounded in Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir and New Delhi after the militant attack in Gurdaspur.

In Ludhiana, security forces stepped up vigil as they checked bus stands and railways stations for any suspicious activity.

Authorities also sounded a high alert in the national capital with hundreds of policemen deployed at railway stations and crowded markets.
