Janata Dal (Secular) leader H.D. Kumaraswamy on Thursday said his party leaders would request Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala to convince the state government to order a CBI probe into the mysterious death of IAS officer D K Ravi.

"We are going to request the governor to convince this government to hand this case to the CBI. Some senior IAS officers had directly requested the Prime Minister and the President to interfere," said Kumaraswamy.

The JD (S) and BJP MLAs had earlier staged a protest march from the Karnataka Assembly to the Governor house over the demand for a CBI probe into Ravi's death.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is also scheduled to hold a Cabinet meet in a short while from now during which a decision is likely to be taken on whether to refer the case to the CBI.

The Karnataka Government has so far rejected the demand and asserted that the CID of the state police is capable of handling the investigation in the case.

The 2009 batch IAS officer, who was deputed as the Joint Commissioner of the state's Commercial Taxes Department, was found mysteriously hanging by a fan in the bedroom of his private apartment in South Bengaluru's Tavarekere earlier on Monday.
