Janata Dal United (JD-U) leader K C Tyagi on Monday took a dig at former ally - the Bharatiya Janata Party - over the distribution of tickets to its candidates, which had left the saffron party on tenterhooks over the last couple of days.

"The BJP has lost all democratic beliefs. It is run neither from Ashoka Road (BJP headquarters in New Delhi) nor from Nagpur (RSS headquarters). Instead, it is controlled from Ahmedabad (Narendra Modi). The BJP seems to be following in the footsteps of the Congress, when it had lost inner party democracy. Hence, there is a hue and cry over seat distribution, and there is dissatisfaction among its own cadres," Tyagi said.

However, senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj rejected suggestions of their being any differences within the rank and file of the BJP over who would be the candidate contesting the general elections from the Varanasi constituency.

According to reports, Narendra Modi is likely to contest from Varanasi, which is currently represented by another senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi.
