Janata Dal (United) leader Ali Anwar on Monday said that it is the Prime Minister who should give an answer to the People's Democratic Party's (PDP) demand for handing over the mortal remains of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru to his family, and alleged that the ruling dispensation at the Centre is hungry for power.
"This is a question actually you should ask the Prime Minister and the BJP. I will only say that the reins of the government in the country are in the hands of those who are hungry for power and that can compromise with someone else for power," he told ANI here.
Commenting on Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's remark crediting Pakistan and the Hurriyat for peaceful assembly elections in the state, the JD (U) leader said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should answer on the issue.
Earlier in the day, a group of PDP MLAs demanded that the mortal remains of Afzal Guru be handed over to his family.
"PDP maintained that late Afzal Guru's hanging was travesty of justice and constitutional process was not followed", and this was repeated in the alleged PDP note.
The note has the endorsement of nine PDP leaders.
Afzal Guru was convicted in the 2003 Parliament attack case and was hanged secretly in Delhi's Tihar Jail on February 9 last year.
