The Janata Dal (United) on Thursday came down hard on Prime Minister Narendra Modi for undertaking a visit to the United Kingdom, describing the trip as being more about him taking and promoting his 'selfies and dresses'.

"Till today there has been no clarification on how much of foreign investment has flown into the nation after Prime Minister's visit to several nations. The Prime Minister is known for his dress and his selfies during his foreign tours," JD (U) general secretary K. C Tyagi told ANI.

On the BJP's defeat in the Bihar elections, Tyagi said it was the turning point in the politics of India.

"On one side where the opposition would unite from here, on the other side democracy would have a bigger say in the BJP. The analysis of the senior leaders would gather more pace and the demand of democracy within the party would be raised more vehemently," he added.

Modi departed for the United Kingdom early on Thursday morning, where the focus will be on defence and security cooperation, terrorism and economic reforms and seeking to boost bilateral investment. he will also pay homage before Mahatma Gandhi's statue near the Parliament and address it and the Indian Diaspora at the Wembley Stadium.

External Affair Minister Sushma Swaraj was present at the Indira Gandhi International airport to see off the Prime Minister and was seen having a lengthy discussion with him before he left.
