The Janata Dal (United) on Wednesday questioned the decision of Samajawadi Party (SP) supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav to split from the Janata Pariwar.

"The question is that Shivpal Yadav came in the rally in Patna and conveyed the message of Mulayam Singh Yadav that they need to defeat the secular forces but don't know what happened afterwards," JD(U) leader Ali Anwar told ANI.

"Nitish himself talked with Mulayam over telephone but he didn't raise any issue. We accepted him as our leader," he added.

Anwar further said that it was good that the Samajwadi Party split from the alliance prior to the Bihar polls.

"We were ready to accept his party symbol, because we wanted to give an alternative to the people which is pro -poor, pro- farmer. It is good that they (SP) went out before the elections, otherwise it would have been have been very dangerous for us if they would have continued with same intensions," he added.

Mulayam had earlier questioned the secular credentials of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
