Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermain Defoe has scored a club record 23rd European goal in his side's Europa League clash with Moldovan side Sheriff Tiraspol, which Tottenham won 2-1 at their home ground in White Hart Lane on Thursday.
Tottenham, with nine changes from their draw against Everton, are through two games quicker than last season - and the win extended an impressive run of form, which has seen them lose just twice in 18 matches.
According to the BBC, Defoe scored a penalty to surpass the goalscoring record of Tottenham and England legend Martin Chivers and add to his teammate Erik Lamela's first goal for the club, which Lamela scored a few minutes earlier in the 60th minute.
The report mentioned that Lamela earned Spurs their first penalty in the game when he was fouled by Tiraspol player Djibril Paye after a mazy run.
An uneventful first half gave hope to their Moldovan visitors, who have never won away in the Europa League, but a second-half double secured Spurs's sixth win in Europe this season and progression from Group K, the report added.
