Condoling the loss of lives due to the stampede in the state's Belabagan area, Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das on Monday announced a compensation of Rs. 2 lakh to the families of the deceased and Rs. 50,000 to the injured.
"It is a very sad incident. My deepest condolences to the family members of the deceased. The state government will provide a compensation of Rs. 2 lakh to families of the deceased and Rs. 50,000 to the injured people," Das told ANI.
"We have set up a high level committee under the leadership of Home Secretary. The state government will take action based on their report," he added.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier extended his condolences over the incident.
At least 11 'Kanwaria' devotees, including one woman, were killed and 50 others injured in a stampede at Durga temple in Jharkhand's Deoghar district today.
According to reports, the incident occurred around 4.30 a.m. at Belabagan, about three kilometers away from the main temple complex.
