The new Janata Dal United JD(U) Government headed by Jitan Ram Manjhi won its trust vote in the Bihar state assembly today.
Earlier, before the session began, BJP MLAs walked out of the assembly.
"This was a historic day, as within the margnalised section of the society, a person hailing from the poorest of the poor, has been installed as the chief minister of Bihar. While the opposition stand was that of forestalling a new person from taking charge of the JD-U," Manjhi said after winning the trust vote.
The floor test comes after, Nitish Kumar resigned as Bihar chief minister after taking moral responsibility for the ruling party's debacle in the Lok Sabha elections.
Meanwhile, in a major development yesterday, the opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) announced unconditional support to the new government in Bihar.
RJD legislature party leader Abdul Bari Siddiqui said the party has decided to support the government as a Mahadalit has become the Chief Minister of Bihar.
