Job fair attracts many youth in Arunachal Pradesh

A three-day long job mela-cum-skill development event was recently organized by the Arunachal Pradesh government with the aim of helping youth of the state hone their skills to improve their employability.

Around 4000 unemployed youth from all districts across the state turned up for the fair.

The fair, which was inaugurated by Arunachal Governor Lt Gen Nirbhay Sharma, was to sensitize the youth regarding job opportunities and various vocational training providers (VTPs) who would impart them relevant skills and help them get jobs.

"We will teach different kind of skills to the unemployed youth, and this is our first step. First of all we have to motivate the youth and change their mindset and way of thinking so that they can face challenges and become successful in life," said Lt. General Nirbhay Sharma.

Various vocational training providers including NHPCO, NEEPCO, private power developers Reliance, Indira Gandhi Technological and Medical Sciences University set up their stalls at the fair.

During the Mela, the Governor and Chief Minister distributed cheques as subsidy to respective Banks and also gave the key of a tractor to a farmer under the CM's Agri Mechanization programme, which was launched in 2012-13. In all 1700 farmers benefited last year, while 1600 are targeted this year.

"This is just to show the right path after that anybody can do something for a livelihood. We have all kinds of industries and various sectors so we will give employment to the unemployed youth by training them and giving them a basic skill and we will show the path to improve their lives," said Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki,

There are around 13,838 unemployed youth registered in the state. Such fairs help to create opportunities for skill development and employment generation. The government is looking forward to generate employment for 1 lakh youth in the next five years.
