Jodhpur Police on Monday confirmed that Asaram Bapu has been declared medically fit-physically and mentally-by doctors, and said the extension of the self-styled godman's police custody will be sought for further investigation.
Jodhpur Police also said they are clear that they had enough evidence against Bapu in a case that is 'purely criminal' in nature.
"Doctors have said that he is fully medically mentally and physically fit," Jodhpur Police Deputy Commissioner of Police Ajay Pal Lamba said.
"As soon as the police custody is over, whatever investigation will be completed, Asaram will be produced before a court. If the investigation authorities need more time for police custody, an extension of his police custody will be asked for. If the police custody is not needed, then we will not ask for police custody," Lamba said.
"We have gathered sufficient evidence in the last ten days. Whatever has been said by the victim, we have collected all of those evidences which collaborate with her statement. We are making it a foolproof case," he said.
"There is no conspiracy. It's a pure and pure a criminal case. It is purely a criminal act. On the part of the police, whatever investigation and action is to be taken in such a case, we are doing that. Whatever the accused wants to say, he is free to say," he added.

Lamba also confirmed that Asaram was presented in court after preliminary questioning and medical examination where the Jodhpur Police got a day's custody of the self-styled godman.
"On the basis of the one day police custody, the investigation team is continuing to investigate him," Lamba said.
Meanwhile, Jodhpur Police also said that Asaram has been given permission to meet his advocate and is presently being supplied with traditional daily medicines from his ashram.
"He is being supplied medicines, which are traditional and specifically for some mental condition, from his ashram. A follower of his from the ashram has also met Asaram," Lamba said.
Lamba said that those accused from Chhindwara will also be asked to join the investigation.
"They have already been given notices, and have not appeared. Whatever is being revealed by Asaram about what happened in Chhindwara, will be verified by them," he said.
The investigation team is led by Investigating Officer Chanchal Mishra.
