Joint progress through shared efforts has been focus of Indo-US interactions: Cyrus Mistry

Tata Group Chairman Cyrus Mistry on Tuesday said that India-US Strategic and Commercial Dialogue (S&CD) has played a meaningful role in shaping the bilateral agenda between the two nations, adding that the main focus of interactions in this forum has been around 'joint progress through shared effort'.

"The opportunity for the forum to act as a catalyst to strengthen the bilateral trade and investment agenda is tremendous. We have seen a spirit of collaboration and partnership in the lead up to this meeting, that gives me great hope that the forum will play a meaningful role in shaping the bilateral agenda," Mistry said at the India-United States Strategic and Commercial Dialogue that is being held here.

"When we look at the theme that has shaped our interactions over the last two years, the narrative has been around joint progress through shared effort," he added.

The Tata Group Chairman further lauded the role played by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Barack Obama to give impetus to strategic and business relations between the two countries.

"In the previous summit meeting in January 2015, Prime Minister Modi and President Obama had emphasized the US and Indian businesses play a critical role in sustainable, inclusive and job led growth and development," Mistry said.

He also hailed efforts made by India and US to create an environment conducive to business.

"We have made an effort to channelize our shared efforts to achieve an environment that encourages simplicity in structure and process, clarity and transparency in decision making and uniformity and consistency in the treatment of corporates and people across borders," he said.

Tuesday's India-US Strategic and Commercial Dialogue will see delegations of both nations holding discussions in areas of mutual interest and identify possible areas for collaboration.

The dialogue is seen as the most comprehensive mechanism for discussion and deliberation on the specifics of bilateral agenda of cooperation in different fields between India and the United States.

Apart from External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, the Indian delegation comprises of Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Commerce and Industry Nirmala Sitharaman and Power Minister Piyush Goyal, besides senior Indian Government officials.
