England batsman-wicketkeeper Jos Buttler has reportedly been put on the red alert to challenge for the position of England's Test glovesman slot a little earlier than expected after Matt Prior was dropped for the Boxing Day Test and replaced by Jonny Bairstow.
England has made it clear there is no longer a No.1 gloveman in situ and although Prior has committed himself to fighting his way back into the side, he may find he has ground to make up on England's one-day keeper who is going to be centre stage from next month onwards.
According to the Mirror, Buttler will take the gloves for the limited-overs series against Australia followed by a tour to the Windies, a World Twenty20 and a one-day series at home against Sri Lanka before the next batch of Test cricket.
And should he score plenty of runs, both Prior and Bairstow could find themselves jostling for position behind the new Lancashire keeper, the report added.
