A journalist was shot dead by unidentified bike-borne assailants in Kanpur's Bilhaur Town on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Naveen Srivastava. He used to work with Kanpur's Hindustan newspaper.
Minutes after the incident, the locals rushed him to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The accused are on the run.
A case has been registered in this regard and further investigation is on.
This is not the first incident; even on November 21, a journalist was shot dead by a Tripura State Rifles (TSR) trooper during an altercation in Bodhjung Nagar in Tripura. He was taken to G B Hospital in Agartala where the doctors declared him brought dead.
On September 20, a television journalist, Santanu Bhowmik, was killed allegedly by some activists of a party in Tripura's Mandai village.
Not forgetting, September 5, when an eminent journalist Gauri Lankesh was shot dead at close range by unknown assailants at her home in Karnataka's Bengaluru which took the country by shock.
