Nike sneakers may be worth a lot more than you think, as a judge accepted a man's offer of new Nike sneakers as bail.
39-year-old Jason Duval from Massachusetts, 39, convinced Framingham District Court judge Douglas Stoddard, that he wouldn't be a flight risk by offering to post his new athletic shoes, which were a Christmas present as bail, Fox News reported.
Duval was reportedly charged with illegal possession of a controlled substance and driving to endanger in 2012, and had agreed to pay 450 dollars in court costs to have the charges dismissed. However, he failed to pay any money after which a warrant was issued and he was picked up New Year's Day.
Duval explained that since he was going through a divorce he didn't have any money, but didn't want to go to jail as well. The judge didn't want to let go off him as he thought he wouldn't come back to pay, and even offered to clear the debt if Duval agreed to spend a few days in jail, but Duval declined.
Stoddard then told Duvalif he could come up with a creative idea to convince him that you'll come back after which he proposed putting up his 85 dollars worth Nike shoes, to which the judge agreed saying he would return the sneakers if Duval paid 100 dollars in 25 dollars weekly installments.
