Judicial probe begins into Mathura violence

The one-man judicial commission headed by Justice (Retd.) Mirza Imtiyaz Murtaza has started its probe into the Jawahar Bagh violence in Mathura.

The Commission yesterday inspected the spot, where 29 people including two Police officers were killed on 2nd of this month during an anti- encroachment drive.

Justice Murtaza said the probe will be based on cause of incident, lacuna in collecting and providing information, shortcomings in the planning of Mathura police, role of supervising officers among others.

He further said that anybody may present any information related to the incident.

As many 25 affidavits were submitted before the commission.

Earlier this month, the Uttar Pradesh Police arrested Chandan Bose, one of the main accused in the Mathura violence case, from Basti district of the state.

As per reports, Bose was being pursued by the police for inciting the violence and also shooting police officer Santhosh Yadav.

Earlier on June 4, the mastermind behind the deadly Mathura violence, Ramvriksh Yadav, was killed.

The gunfight between the police personnel and a band of encroachers was led by Yadav earlier on June 2.

The death toll in the Mathura is 24. Those killed include Mathura Superintendent of Police (City) Mukul Dwivedi, Farah Police Station SHO Santosh Yadav and 20 protesters. More than 40 people were injured in the incident.

The incident took place when the Swadheen Bharat Subhash Sena (SBSS) activists opened fire at the police party that attempted to evict the Jawahar Park.
