Researchers have claimed that former Chilean ruler General Augusto Pinochet's regime tortured their prisoners by playing songs by Julio Iglesias and George Harrison.

According to a new research, music was blasted in the torturing chambers as part of the psychological suffering that was endured by thousands of Pinochet's political opponents, who were detained after he gained power in 1973, the Independent reported.

Former prisoners insisted that Harrison's 'My Sweet Lord' and several songs of the Spanish singer were played for days at a time.

Researcher Dr Katia Chornik, from University of Manchester, had studied the use of music in Pinochet's infamous torture houses, concentration camps and prisons.
