Justice TS Thakur On Thursday took oath as the Chief Justice of India. He was administered the oath of office by President Pranab Mukherjee at Rashtrapati Bhawan.
Justice Thakur succeeds Justice H.L. Dattu, who demitted office yesterday.
Justice Thakur started his career as a civil, criminal, constitutional and taxation lawyer in Jammu and Kashmir High Court. He was designated as a senior advocate in 1990.
Justice Thakur was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court in 1994. He has also served as Judge in Karnataka and Delhi High Courts.
In 2008, he was appointed as the acting Chief Justice of Delhi High Court and took over as Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court. He was elevated as Judge of Supreme Court in 2009.
Justice Thakur has been associated with a host of significant judgments. He led the bench, which had delivered the verdict on reforming the BCCI following the IPL betting and spot-fixing scandal.
