Former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Kalyan Singh was on Thursday sworn-in as the Governor of Rajasthan.
Singh had earlier thanked his party for his appointment and vowed to work for the betterment of the state. Singh had said that he would maintain the dignity of the governor's office and work as the state government's friend and not as a competitor.
President Pranab Mukherjee had earlier in August temporarily appointed Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik as the Governor of Rajasthan, following the completion of the tenure of Margaret Alva on August 5.
Singh, 82, has been in politics for more than two decades. He was the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh on two occasions - the first time from June 1991 to December 1992, and for a second time. As a politician, he has represented the Atrauli and Kasganj constituencies between September 1997 and November 1999. He left the BJP for the first time in 1999 and returned to it in 2004. He left the party again in 2009 and returned to its fold this year. He was appointed the Governor of Rajasthan on August 26, 2014.
