Senior Congress leader Kamal Nath has demanded a detailed statement from the NDA Government on journalist Ved Prakash Vaidik's meeting with 26/11 terror mastermind Hafiz Saeed in Lahore.

Speaking to reporters outside Parliament, he said: "Government will have to give a detailed statement in Parliament on Vaidik-Saeed meet, its a very serious issue."

"Government has to clearly give the statement on this. Saying that our embassy and ministers does not know will not work. They know that our agencies keep a watch on these activities," he added.

In the Lok Sabha, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Tuesday reiterated that it was completely unfair and wrong on the part of the opposition and the Congress Party in particular to blame the government directly for allegedly facilitating the meeting between Vaidik and Saeed.

She said that Vaidik had acted in his individual capacity, and that the government had absolutely no role to play in facilitating the trip or the meeting.

A similar statement was made by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in the Rajya Sabha.

Vaidik has openly accepted that he met Saeed in Lahore, and criticized the Congress for unnecessarily giving it a political twist to put Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government in the dock.

He said that he is ready to share all the records of his meetings in Pakistan.
